Our Farms have been busy over the past few months tending to some much needed infrastructure projects. At our Powhatan Farm, we renovated several of our hoop houses, which serve as critical season-extending structures and allow us to grow finnicky crops like tomatoes and eggplant in a protected space.  In addition to putting new plastic on the structures, we also installed heaters (to help increase the number of months we can grow and harvest produce) and fans (to help increase air flow through the houses). We are very grateful to the Scott Foundation for their generous support of this project.

The Volunteer Pavilion at the Powhatan Farm is also looking a bit different these days! The addition of a concrete pad will help making clean up a breeze. Pictured below – First photo: the Volunteer Pavilion before adding concrete, Bottom Photos: after!

At our Northside Farm, we’ve made major upgrades to our shipping container barn, including the construction of a brand new lean-to, providing volunteers and staff with a covered space to work. This lean-to provides shade and protection from rain in the space between our wash-and-pack area and our produce coolers.

These projects and more at the Northside Farm were made possible due to the generous support of Love, Tito’s. In addition to helping us build out our shipping container barn, support from Love, Tito’s enabled us to make significant upgrades to our driveway infrastructure, making it easier (and safer) for volunteers and visitors to access the farm.
