Volunteer with Us
We can't meet our mission without you.
Volunteers are an enormous asset to both of our farms, and we truly couldn’t meet our mission without them. From planting and harvesting, to weeding and field preparation, volunteers are hard at work almost every day and assist with nearly every aspect of our farm operation.

Roll Up Your Sleeves
We welcome individuals and groups of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
All first time volunteers will receive an educational tour as part of their volunteer experience that gives an overview of our agricultural operation and food access initiatives across Richmond.
We do our best to accommodate each request, however, volunteer slots are limited and volunteers are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that our Powhatan Farm has a much larger capacity to welcome volunteers and is better suited to welcome large groups and groups of children.
Though we love welcoming volunteers of all ages, please note that we are a working farm and most farm tasks are not appropriate for children under 6 years old. Young children can observe and explore, but may not be able to fully participate in volunteer work. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult group leader.

Volunteer Survey
We are so grateful for each and every volunteer. After your volunteer shift please consider completing our Volunteer Experience Survey to help us continue to improve our program.
Lead Volunteer Program
We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated group of Lead Volunteers that commit to working at least one day a week with us for the entire growing season.
Last year, we had more than 45 Lead Volunteers across both farm sites, each of whom volunteered with us anywhere from 30-100 times a year! These unofficial staff members continue to be a critical component to our success.
