Volunteers are an enormous asset to our 12-acre Powhatan farm, and we truly couldn’t meet our mission without them. From planting and harvesting, to weeding and field preparation, volunteers are hard at work on our farm almost every day. Our robust volunteer experience includes education on what we do as an organization and how your help contributes to a more just food system, as well as a a tour of our beautiful farm.
From March to November, we schedule volunteers Mon-Thurs from 9-12noon and 1-4pm as well as on Saturdays from 9-12noon. We love welcoming all ages to volunteer, visit, and learn with us. However, we are a working farm and it’s important to note that most farm tasks are not appropriate for children under 6 years old. Young children can observe and explore, but may not be able to fully participate in volunteer work. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult group leader.
Interested in getting your hands dirty? Please read through our Volunteer Information Sheet, our What to Expect Summary, and our COVID-19 Safety Precautions to learn more about our volunteer operation before signing up. If you are interested in scheduling an educational visit to our farm, please read through our Education Opportunities.
