Our Programs

Production

We operate two farm sites, each offering something unique to our community in addition to fresh produce.

Shalom Farms | Northside Farm

Northside Farm

Spanning 5 urban acres and conveniently located in the heart of metro Richmond on Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Westwood Tract, the Northside farm is the production and aggregation hub for all of our programs. Featuring a community pavilion and adjacent to the Yaupon Place Park, the Northside farm is also an ideal gathering space for community events and more.

Powhatan Farm

Equipped with 6 high tunnels and situated on 14 acres of space off of Rt. 288 and Huguenot Trail, the Powhatan farm is the location for all winter growing, in addition to regular season production. This season, for the first time, the Powhatan farm will assist with research on different growing conditions on produce nutrition, in partnership with national research institutions, like the Rodale Institute.

Distribution

Through our distribution programs, we are removing barriers to accessing fresh produce by increasing availability, affordability, and nutrition & food skills education.

Mobile Market

Since 2016, our Mobile Market has been a consistent fresh food outlet across Richmond. Stocked with both Shalom Farms grown produce and products from local farmers, our Mobile Markets offer a 50% SNAP Match thanks to the Virginia Fresh Match Program, cooking demonstrations, samples, and more.

Produce Rx

Our Produce Rx program, supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, partners with several local clinics to offer nutrition education, cooking skills and fresh produce to participants enrolled in our cohort-based food as medicine health programs, with an emphasis on tracking health outcomes and shifting habits long-term.

Engagement

From opportunities to pitch in at our farms or Mobile Markets to sharing knowledge both from inside our organization and in partnership, our engagement programs bring the community together in a variety of ways!
